A new suite of digital interpretation for Beckford's Tower

We’re thrilled to announce we’ve been appointed to create new digital experiences both inside and outside Beckford’s Tower. Working with curatorial and engagement staff from Bath Preservation Trust, and partnership with our long-term collaborators Calvium, we’ll develop immersive content that can be enjoyed out in the landscape and within the lower rooms.

The project will be the first use of our new handheld VR binoculars – providing step-free 360 degree views from the top of the Tower in a familiar, analogue-feeling device.

We’ll be using innovative audio and AR technology to enhance the walk through the paddocks and cemetary to the Tower, and to explore the stories of William Beckford and many others who are part of the Tower’s history as part of the broader NLHF redevelopment.

Our work will help bring stories from the past and local voices from the present to life, encourage visits from new audiences, and create a unique visitor experience through sound, animation, interactive experiences, video and interview pieces, and breathtaking AR reconstructions.

We’re thrilled to partner with long-time collaborators, Zubr, to deliver an interactive, rich and varied experience for visitors to Beckford’s Tower. We are excited we can make the very most of our Place Experience Platform to augment the landscape with inclusive audio and visual storytelling.

How will it work?

Calvium’s Place Experience Platform will be the foundation for our augmented reality and host more traditional content, like audio clips, images and videos.

We’ll be working with the curatorial team and community steering groups to collate the research and determine the best ways to share the history of the Tower and surrounding landscape in an immersive, playful but educational way. Then our designers and developers will translate the chosen stories into captivating augmented and digital content.

We can’t wait to start exploring the collections and learning more about this historic site. Keep your eyes peeled!
